Seattle artist Beth Fishman exhibits fresh, inspired abstract works in acrylic on canvass in an exhibit titled “Open”. Fishman’s work will be on view June 4 through July 31 . Her recent paintings create a sense of movement and excitement with direct brushstrokes, scraped passages and complex layers. She mixes neutral passages of black, white and grey with vivid touches of magenta, turquoise and gold. These dynamic pieces invite the viewer to experience different states of being contained inside the world of the abstract painted image.

Make an Art Viewing Appointment here to schedule your 30-minute visit.

Meet the Artist from 3 to 6 pm on Friday June 4! Visitors admitted as space allows, masks required.

Framing Textiles, Jerseys and Fabric Art

Presenting textiles, fabric art pieces and items of clothing is a specialty of ours. Each project is unique and requires thoughtful decisions about how to best attach the fabric item to a backing (usually a mat board or fabric-covered panel). Sports jerseys might be folded to best display the logos and numbers while minimizing overall size. Heavy items such as woven rugs and heavy embroideries may be sewn or pinned for extra support. Our framers have years of experience in selecting the appropriate method for your piece, and will share details with you during the design session.

Once the textile is attached, it can be presented in a frame with our without glass. Often glass is recommended because dust and light can damage fabrics over time. Signed jerseys are particularly vulnerable to light damage. If the piece is large, UV Plexiglas is a great choice to reduce weight and provide protection. Custom plexi boxes with clear sides are another option for special pieces where a frame is not desired, or the item can’t fit into a frame.

This Custom Framing Takes Cues from a Style Icon

A client and Bowie fan brought in this print and wanted some special framing. Our lead framer had the idea to echo the iconic “Alladin Sane” album cover with spliced matting and a stacked frame. The white and orange color scheme keeps a mod aesthetic intact and draws the eye into the artwork.

“Shifting Continuity”, Painted Tissue with Encaustic, 12” x 48”

"Zoopolis is defined as “where human and wild geographies melt and mingle”. With all the fear of getting infected with Covid-19, and a lack of knowledge about the invisible disease that shut all of us down, I felt a strong desire to be outside connecting with nature and fresh air. Being connected to wild geographies both emotionally and creatively, I found this work pouring out of me.

Making this work during my artist-in-residence gave me peace of mind and a joy. This work uplifted me during some of the darkest days of my life and I hope it does that for you as well." -- Karrie Baas
